On the 17th May 2019, Tara studios, London, hosted a one-off SOLD OUT live book club in front of an audience. This was a collaboration between S.A.S.S. (South Asian Sisters Speak) and their Brown Girls Book Club, MissyMya and Tara Arts.

Sharhreen Vayani
Shahreen is doing a research internship + works at an art house cinema; she enjoys reading & watching documentaries in her spare time. She got involved with SASS as the books selected were missing from the curriculum + the discussions are always relevant & thought-provoking
Mashal Iftikhar
Mashal is a junior doctor training in London. In her spare time she loves reading, writing & day-dreaming over endless cups of tea. Her piece explores themes of motherhood and the role women play in family & community and how this shapes and intersects with their sense of self
Mahek Mehta
Mahek has recently graduated with a masters in Environmental Studies & currently works for the civil service. She likes to listen to podcasts, be in nature + is a fan of good coffee! She's never done creative writing before & is super excited to explore her creative side!
Farhana Khalique
Farhana Khalique is a teacher, voiceover artist & writer from south-west London. Recently, she won a Word Factory Apprentice Award 2018/19 and was a winner in Spread the Word’s City of Stories competition. Her work has also appeared in The Good Journal, sister-hood magazine & The Asian Writer.
Avita
Avita works in the legal sector and joined the SASS book club thanks to a chance encounter at the perfect moment. She wanted to try creative writing to challenge herself and push herself out her comfort zone - mission accomplished!
Ferhana Jameel
Ferhana works in publishing and is naturally passionate about books, film & theatre in her spare time. Her love of storytelling, and particularly South Asian narratives, is what drew her to become involved with SASS book club and this writing project.
Maryam
Originally from Pakistan but having grown up in Brunei,Maryam has been living in the UK for 8 years & currently works in the legal fintech sector. She got involved with SASS as she was attracted to the rarity of a community of diverse opinions & experiences of supportive SA women
Sanmeet Kaur
Sanmeet works in the women’s rights sector and enjoys reading, writing and drinking lots of tea in-between! She became involved with SASS because she wanted a safe space to share her writing and get out of her comfort zone
