The Girl in the Broken Mirror by Savita Kalhan has been chosen by the whole team.
We feel it’s an important piece of work for many reasons. Savita is the only British Asian woman with a book published in the YA category in the UK in 2018 and been nominated for the Carnegie Medal, a very prestigious prize for YA writing.
It is a very personal book for Savita, and that’s what it’s strength is; the honesty. It’s very relevant for the now, especially in the wake of the #metoo movement.
Although it comes under the Young Adult category, it’s definitely one for adults too.
Trust us, we’re in the process of reading it, and so far we’re hooked. Savita and The Girl in the Broken Mirror is undoubtedly one to watch. We will be featuring an interview with her soon, so please keep an eye out.
